Privacy Policy

Applies to the Memoriola mobile application (“Memoriola”, “the App”).

1. Who we are

Memoriola is a visual diary: a mobile app that helps you record or import short moments for a project and assemble them into a film in the order they happened. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App uses, how it is handled, and what choices you have.

2. Summary

  • No account. You do not create a Memoriola account to use the App.
  • No tracking. We do not track you across apps or websites for advertising.
  • On-device first. Your projects, video clips, and related metadata are stored on your device.
  • Permissions are optional for core use where possible, and are requested only for their stated purpose (camera, microphone, location labels, importing from Photos, saving to Photos).

3. Information the App uses

Memoriola is designed so that content you create stays on your device. Depending on how you use the App, the following may be processed locally on your device:

  • Camera and microphone content. Video and audio you record as “moments” for a project. Used only to create and store those moments and the resulting film.
  • Location (when you allow it). Approximate or precise location may be used at the time of recording to create an on-device place label for a moment or film. Location is not used to build a profile of you, and is not sent to our servers (we do not operate a content sync backend for your films).
  • Photos / media library (when you allow it). Used to import videos you choose as moments (including selecting more than one and importing them in order), and to save an exported film to Photos. Importing copies the videos you select onto the device and may crop them to the project orientation. If a clip is still in iCloud, the App may download it through Apple’s Photos APIs while you wait (a progress indicator can appear). Memoriola does not upload your library to our servers, and does not browse the gallery except when you pick videos or save a film.
  • Captions. Text you write for a moment, stored on device and optionally burned into the exported film. Caption timing is calculated locally.
  • Film looks. Optional on-device color grades applied when you make a film (for example Original, Teal, Honey, Steel, Bleach, Ink). Processing stays on your device.
  • Overlay preferences. Choices such as showing place and time on the film, layout, and whether place/time hide after the first few seconds of each moment — stored locally.
  • Location language preference. Whether place labels follow the system language or English — stored locally and used only to format on-device place text.
  • App settings and project metadata. Things like project names, clip order/timestamps, orientation preferences, onboarding state, export look and overlay choices, and whether Memoriola Unlocked is active — stored locally (for example via on-device storage / preferences APIs).
  • Purchases (Memoriola Unlocked). If you buy the optional unlock, payment is processed by Apple or Google through their in-app purchase systems. We do not receive your full payment card details. The App may store a local record that the unlock entitlement is active, and may ask the store to restore prior purchases associated with your Apple ID or Google account. Memoriola Unlocked unlocks 4K export as a one-time purchase. Recording, importing from Photos, captions, film looks, unlimited projects, 1080p export, and the optional “Made by memoriola” mark do not require Unlocked.

4. What we do not collect

  • We do not require an email address or user profile to use Memoriola.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your moments for advertising.
  • We do not operate analytics or advertising SDKs that track you across other companies’ apps or sites. The App’s privacy manifest declares that tracking is not used.
  • We do not upload your videos to Memoriola-operated cloud storage as part of normal use. An iCloud download during import goes from Apple’s Photos service to your device — not to us. If you share a film yourself (for example via the system share sheet or by saving to Photos), that sharing is under your control and subject to the destination’s policies.

5. How information is used

On-device information is used only to:

  • Provide core App features (record; import and crop library videos you select; captions; film looks; organize by time; compose a film; save locally);
  • Remember your settings, overlay preferences, and unlock status on that device;
  • Label moments with time (and place, if you grant location permission), using your location language preference for place text.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Because Memoriola keeps your moments on your device, we do not receive your film content to share with third parties.

Limited sharing can occur only in these situations:

  • Apple App Store / Google Play. Purchase, restore, and receipt validation for Memoriola Unlocked are handled by the platform. Their privacy policies apply to payment and account data they process.
  • You. If you export or share a film, you choose the destination.
  • Legal requirements. If we ever operate a service that holds contact messages you send us (for example email to [email protected]), we may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety — but your in-app moments are not stored on our servers under this Policy’s intended design.

7. Retention and deletion

Project data and videos remain on your device until you delete them in the App or remove the App (which typically deletes its local data). Clearing the App’s data via system settings has the same effect. We do not maintain a cloud copy of your films to delete on request, because we do not host them.

8. Children’s privacy

Memoriola is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a Memoriola account or server. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us by email, contact [email protected] and we will delete it from our correspondence records where applicable.

9. International users

The App processes information on your device wherever you use it. If you contact us by email, your message may be processed in the country where we operate our inbox.

10. Your choices and rights

  • Device permissions. You can deny or revoke camera, microphone, location, and Photos access in your device Settings. Some features will not work without the related permission.
  • Local deletion. Delete projects or moments in the App, or uninstall the App to remove local App data.
  • Purchases. Manage or restore in-app purchases through Apple or Google account tools.
  • Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you (for example in email correspondence). Contact us at [email protected].

11. Security

Because content stays on your device, protection depends largely on your device security (passcode, biometrics, OS updates). We take reasonable care with any privacy-related email you send us.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Policy, except where applicable law requires otherwise. Material changes may also be noted in the App Store / Play listing or in-app notice when appropriate.
